70-year old Marysville man robbed; two arrested

At just past 9:00 AM today, Marysville Police responded to a robbery in the parking lot of the Marysville Post Office at 1010 State Avenue.

Officers spoke with the victim, 70, of Marysville, who reported that another man had just robbed him after walking out of the post office. The two fought briefly, but the suspect managed to get into his vehicle and flee with the victim’s money, also striking the victim with his car. The victim declined medical attention, and noted the vehicle’s license plate as it fled.

A Marysville Officer recognized the vehicle’s license plate and owner and recalled a recent contact he had had with the vehicle at a residence in the 5800 block of 60th Drive NE in Marysville.

The officer located the car shortly afterward, parked and unoccupied in front of 5817 60th Drive NE. Officers surrounded the residence and secured it as investigators obtained a search warrant for the home.

The robbery suspect, 33, also from Marysville, voluntarily exited the house while officers were waiting for the search warrant. He was arrested without incident. Interviews at the scene yielded information that there were four other subjects in the house, one of whom had a felony warrant for his arrest.

With the assistance of the Marysville SWAT Team, detectives served a search warrant on the home and the suspect’s vehicle after the remaining subjects exited the residence peacefully. Among them was a male who was arrested for his unrelated felony warrant.

All other subjects were detained briefly and then released.

Initial reports indicated that the suspect might have used a firearm during the robbery; however, no guns were recovered. Further investigation at the scene led detectives to believe that the suspect may have instead brandished a can of bear mace during the incident.

Two males were later booked into the Snohomish County Jail, one for Robbery in the First Degree, the second for his felony warrant.
