Welcome to the Marysville Skatepark
With 10,000 square feet of concrete, the unique Marysville Skatepark has something for all skateboarders, regardless of age or skill level, including a "street-style course" design that combines some of the most popular features coveted by skateboarders including bowls, ramps, pyramids, numerous handrails, ledges and steps. A spectator area gives provides excellent viewing and places to take a break.
Marysville Parks and Recreation has announced a new "Family Skate" schedule for the city's skate park located at 1050 Columbia Avenue. Family Skate hours will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Sundays beginning May 3. The park will be open to skaters 12 years and younger and parents if they wish to participate with family members.
The goal of this program is to increase use of the park by families, creating a less challenging atmosphere with competing or more advanced skaters according to Parks and Recreation Director Jim Ballew. "Many beginning or novice skaters are intimidated by those that are more adventurous on the course and less intolerant of new patrons of the sport." The City's Park and Recreation Advisory Board approved the recommendation addressing community interest towards improving access to novice skaters. Parks and Recreation will also be offering beginner skate instruction classes this summer. Those dates and times will be advertised soon.
Construction of the skatepark commenced in May 2002, provided by Finishing Edge, Inc. Purkiss Rose RSI of Fullerton, Calif. designed the skatepark. The Marysville Parks and Recreation Department hosted a ribbon-cutting to officially open the Skatepark in August 2002. Skateboarding demonstrations, live "surf" music, free pizza and pop and free giveaway from Apoge Boardshop delivered a memorable opening day.
In addition to the Marysville City Council's leadership in approving most of the funding for the skateboard park, the project drew an incredible amount of support from local civic organizations, leaders in the business community and individual donors. For a complete list of donors and background about the skatepark, visit the City web site at http://marysvillewa.gov/sk8donors.htm.
In an effort to stress that local skateboarders take pride and ownership in the Skatepark, skateboarders were invited to become involved in the planning process and kept the wheels spinning toward construction of the Skatepark. Skateboard park users, remember, it is your park. Enjoy it responsibly. Grafitti and property damage only detract from an excellent skateboarding facility that deserves to be kept in mint condition. Do your part to keep it that way. If you see inappropriate activity, or defacing or damaging of property occur, please call 911.
