Housing Action Plan

The City of Marysville received a grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce to assist with the City’s upcoming Comprehensive Plan Update. The City has allocated a portion of the funding to develop a Housing Action Plan (HAP), that will play a crucial role in updating the City's Housing Element and provide context for its Land Use Element. While the City does not build housing, the HAP will help to influence the types of housing that are built by developers. The HAP’s data and action items will provide the direction and strategies we need to ensure the City’s housing needs are met in a sustainable and equitable manner.

The first step in developing the City’s HAP was a Housing Needs Assessment (HNA), completed in March 2023. The HNA provides a deeper understanding of the City’s housing market dynamics, unmet housing needs, and population and housing projections for the next 20 years using the 2021 5-year American Community Survey (ACS) data, the most current data available.  A draft of the Housing Action Plan (HAP) was completed in September 2023. The HAP outlines the key housing challenges facing our community, and outlines strategies for addressing these challenges. We encourage you to review and comment on this draft.

Community Engagement

Community engagement is an important component of developing a HAP. Through interviews, focus groups, public meetings, and a community survey, we are actively seeking out and engaging residents, especially populations that are historically underrepresented, to ensure input is representative of Marysville’s changing cultural and demographic diversity.

Our outreach process focuses on gathering insight from a range of diverse perspectives, including residents, community leaders, business owners, nonprofits, service providers, and housing developers. We invite you to take our community survey which may be accessed here.  (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MarysvilleHAP) .  We also welcome you to attend our Open House on Tuesday, October 10th from 4:30 to 6:30 at City Hall, 2nd Floor Council Chambers, 501 Delta Avenue, where a brief presentation on the HAP will be provided and feedback on housing recommendations will be received.

If you have questions or would like to submit a comment, please contact Angela Gemmer at agemmer@marysvillewa.gov or 360.363.8240. Or join the project listserv to receive project updates.
