Work gets underway today to install
traffic circles on Marysville’s Second Street east of State Avenue. Threetraffic circles will be located along Second Street at the intersections of
Alder, Quinn and Union avenues to help slow traffic there. Traffic revisionswill be in place as needed during construction, which is anticipated to be completed this month and is weather-dependent.
The new traffic circles will be
similar but not identical to those now on Third Street. This project does notinclude stormwater detention facilities or corner bulb-outs as seen on Third
Street.
After residents filed complaints lastyear about excessive speeds on Second Street, city staff conducted a traffic
study and visual assessment. The Traffic Safety Committee reviewed thosereports and found that traffic calming actions were needed to reduce traffic speeds
and cut-through traffic volume on Second Street.
Meanwhile, the city continues design work for a new bypass route along First Street
between State Avenue and 47th Avenue NE. Construction on that project is slatedto begin in 2019. When complete, it will offer Marysville residents and
travelers an alternative east-west corridor to Fourth Street.
