Man tragically dies after being injured by fireworks

A 21-year-old Marysville man has died from injuries sustained by fireworks on July 4th.

Marysville Fire District firefighters and Marysville Police responded to a 911 call in the 15000 block of 51st Ave NE at approximately 11:48 p.m. Saturday. Paramedics found the patient unresponsive with significant upper body injuries. The patient was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

Witnesses at the scene reported another 20-year-old man also sustained non-life threatening injuries in the incident, but bystanders drove him to a local hospital prior to police and fire personnel arriving at the scene.

Marysville Police conducted an investigation and determined that this was an accidental death resulting from the premature explosion of a mortar-style firework.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends.

Consumer fireworks remain illegal within Marysville city limits and have been since 2017.
