The final phases of construction on the First Street Bypass are getting underway this week. First Street on both sides of State Avenue will be closed Aug. 27, 28, 31 and Sept. 1 for grinding and final asphalt paving. State Avenue (SR 529) will remain open to traffic.
During this time final paving will also take place east on First Street east of State Ave. Expect lane closures and intermittent delays in the area, including on Alder Avenue.
Next up, from Sept. 10 through 13, the same sections of First Street will be closed to complete the concrete sidewalks at the intersection.
In all cases, detour and traffic signs will be posted.
The $13 million First Street Bypass, one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken by the city, is nearing completion and expected to open in early October. This new arterial route avoids train crossings in downtown Marysville and offers an east-west traffic alternative to Fourth Street (SR 528).
