Marysville Police Department launches new body-worn camera pilot program

Marysville Police Department Body Cameras

The Marysville Police Department is pleased to announce that we are launching a new body-worn camera pilot program.  Our goal is to increase our transparency and continue to foster trust and positive relationships with our community.
Over the next 90 days the Marysville Police Department will equip 10 officers at a time to test and evaluate body-worn cameras as well as the use of a cloud-based digital evidence storage platform.  This program will include patrol officers, detectives and correction officers. The body cameras will be worn throughout the officers’ shifts.
The department will be evaluating whether this program fulfills the requirement under HB 1223—Uniform Electronic Recordation of Custodial Interrogation Act, which requires audio and video recording of all interrogations of all arrestees. Read the full session law for HB1223 (PDF) at https://cob.org/wp-content/uploads/2021-HB1223.pdf
During the pilot program we will be evaluating its effectiveness in providing our community and department with a more clear representation of our officers’ interaction with the public, as well as the collection of evidence to help ensure the successful prosecution of crimes.
Over a dozen officers attended the training on how to use the new cameras.  Officers chosen for the pilot program have volunteered and are excited to utilize this new technology.  The cameras attach directly to the officers’ uniforms or clothing.
The Marysville Police Department has enjoyed and benefitted from the continued support of our community.  We have outstanding officers and strive to find opportunities to provide excellent service to our community.
