Marysville Police apprehend armed suspect after theft at sporting goods store

Behind the Scenes Posted on October 13, 2023

Marysville Police Department detectives sprang into action at a sporting goods store, when employees pointed out two men who were acting suspiciously and grabbing large amounts of clothes. One of the men left the business, where he was met by a Marysville detective. He was seen reaching for something in his waistband and lunging at another MPD detective at the scene. The suspect was seen throwing the merchandise and his belongings into a car and was detained shortly after.

Surveillance video from the parking lot showed that the suspect had pulled a pistol from his waistband while concealing it under a stolen sweatshirt. While concealing the weapon, surveillance video showed that the suspect had pointed the gun directly toward one of the MPD detectives.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers found a loaded pistol, the stolen sweatshirt, Blue Fentanyl pills, Methamphetamine, Cocaine and cash. The suspect is facing several charges, including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Theft. The other man whom he was seen with at the store was also identified and detained on a misdemeanor warrant.

These arrests were made during a crime suppression emphasis, involving our department, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and Arlington Police Department. These North Snohomish County agencies are partnering and working together to stop and prevent crime, focusing on areas often hit by public drug use, street-level drug dealing, auto theft, retail theft and trespassing.

We are grateful that this incident had a positive outcome and ended safely while highlighting the great work of our local agencies to protect the community and businesses.
