Meet Molly: MPD’s newest (and furriest) wellness officer

Behind the Scenes Posted on October 30, 2024

Molly is not just any dog; she’s the newest member of the Marysville Police Department, here to support our officers!

The 2-year-old English Crème Retriever was officially sworn in during this week’s City Council meeting, taking her place as the city’s first-ever Wellness Facility Dog. With her calm demeanor and comforting presence, Molly is ready to support our first responders.

Molly was graciously donated to the City by Mattox Dog Training Academy (MDTA). During the ceremony, the Marysville Police Foundation, a non-profit that supports law enforcement and public safety, also presented a check for $11,000 in donations to fund Molly’s intensive training. Without the generosity of the Marysville Police Foundation, attaining Molly would not have been possible.

Located in Eastern Washington, MDTA has trainers that specialize in support dogs for veterans and first responders. Molly’s calm demeanor in crowded spaces and her ability to respond to signs of stress make her an ideal addition to the department.

“Molly represents our commitment to supporting the well-being of our first responders who face unique daily challenges,” said Mayor Jon Nehring. “This program wouldn’t be possible without the incredible generosity of our community and the Marysville Police Foundation.”

“Having a resource like Molly for our team’s mental wellness is invaluable,” said Police Chief Erik Scairpon. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have the Foundation’s support in bringing her to the department.”

To enhance public safety, the Marysville Police Foundation collaborates closely with law enforcement, providing critical resources and promoting community engagement. To support these impactful projects, please consider donating at the Marysville Police Foundation website.
