The City of Marysville asks residents to exercise caution this Fourth of July to help make the day enjoyable and safe for all. Residents are asked to be aware of and abide by the fireworks laws, make efforts and plans to protect your home and to be a good neighbor.
“Safe and sane” style fireworks are legal to discharge within Marysville city limits on July 4, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Possession or discharge of illegal fireworks can result in being ticketed. Use of legal fireworks outside the specified time on the Fourth of July can also result in tickets issued. Please note that it is illegal to discharge fireworks of any kind year round within all City of Marysville parks.
Police will have extra patrols throughout the city during the days leading up to and on the Fourth of July. People found in violation of the fireworks laws will be ticketed.
“The Fourth of July should be a time for our community to celebrate,” said Police Chief Rick Smith. “We’re asking you to be a good neighbor. When people use illegal fireworks, or shoot off fireworks in a way that can hurt people or damage property, it can ruin the holiday for everyone.”
Please be respectful to your neighbors by abiding by the laws and use only legal fireworks during the approved time on the Fourth of July. Please safely clean up your fireworks and properly dispose of the debris.
A new law was passed earlier this year that will ban the sales and use of all fireworks year round in Marysville effective in 2017.
Both the police and fire departments offer the following fireworks safety tips:
• Read all the instructions and warnings
• Have a hose and bucket of water nearby
• Light fireworks on a clear, flat surface
• Dispose of fireworks safely
• Do not use illegal fireworks
• Do not hold or lean over fireworks when discharging
• Do not shoot fireworks at others
• Do not take apart fireworks
“It’s always a better idea to attend a community fireworks display than to set them off at home. Set the good example to be safe and responsible this 4th of July,” said Fire Chief Martin McFalls.
