When you picture a Marysville Police officer, beards, moustaches and pink accessories are probably not the first images that jump to mind – but that’s exactly what you’re likely to see for the next three months.
To raise awareness of cancer, the Marysville Police Department is allowing police officers, custody officers and records personnel to grow facial hair or wear pink clothing and accessories as a way to show their support of the effort.
From Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, staff members who choose to participate in the effort donate $20 a month to the Marysville Police Officer’s Association fund. At the end of three months, all money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
The department is encouraging more staff to participate by promoting a weekly “best facial hair” and “best pink accessory” contest, and plans to post photos of the winners on the city’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
