[ARCHIVED] Single cars accidents sends two to the Hospital and results in criminal charges for the driver

Marysville – 12.04.17 and 2:20 pm

At about 8:22 this morning Marysville Patrol Officers and units from the Marysville Fire Department responded to a single car accident in the 8500 block of 59th Ave NE. Upon arriving on scene, officers observed an upside down SUV that had slid into a tree. The 44 year old male, Marysville resident, and driver of the vehicle was located inside his house a short distance away from the accident scene, along with his 7 month old daughter.

Officers soon learned the 7-month-old infant girl was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Fortunately, the infant was secured inside a car seat at the time of the accident.

Officers on scene did not see any obvious injuries to the child during their contact. The male driver had obvious injuries to his head and shoulder. Both the infant and the driver were transported to Providence Regional Medical Center, Emergency Room, Colby Campus.

During the investigation officers learned that neighbors had witnessed the father crawl out of the overturned SUV, and run inside his nearby house, leaving the 7-month-old girl in the car seat, in the upside down car.

Those Neighbors rescued the baby out of the car. They said it was several minutes before the father exited the house and returned to the car. There was only one 911 call for the accident, and that came from a neighbor.

The investigation learned that the father was returning from Walmart where he was buying formula for the baby girl. As he was approaching his own house, he lost control of the SUV, leaving the roadway and colliding with two cement posts on opposite side of a driveway, and four mailboxes.  The SUV then turned over and slid into a tree. “To travel that far and through so many objects, speed was obviously a contributing factor in the crash, Said Cmdr. Thomas”.

During the investigation, a loaded firearm was located in a diaper bag just inside the overturned SUV.

The father is facing several criminal charges related to the accident, leaving the child, and the firearm.

CPS responded to the hospital where they took custody of the 7-month-old girl.
