Outstanding Volunteer Award
Promoting Community Service
The Mayor’s Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes citizens for their volunteer contributions and commitments to community service to the City of Marysville. Volunteers whose contributions help make a positive impact to the Marysville community are eligible.
Mayor Jon Nehring established the recognition program to honor exceptional volunteers at regularly scheduled City Council meetings.
Nominate Someone
Do you know someone whose service and dedication to the community makes them the perfect candidate for the Outstanding Volunteer Award? The mayor wants to hear from you. Complete and submit an online nomination form. Be sure to read the accompanying eligibility & criteria before completing the nomination form.

Eligibility & Criteria
- Individuals may be nominated by an individual, agency, corporation or organization
- Nominations should be made for direct service, board service or administrative volunteering
- The nominee will be considered based on initiative and good work achieved through volunteer service
- The outstanding volunteer nominee should be committed to making the City of Marysville a better community through voluntary personal service to its citizens to meet community needs
2024 recipients
- February: Ben Chambers has participated in nearly every Litter League event and Happy Parks, Happy Hearts cleanup day
- March: Jason Busch for volunteering for more than 10 years as a youth basketball coach for Marysville Parks, Culture and Recreation
2023 recipients
- February: Gail Frost for her tireless volunteer work with multiple organizations, including the Marysville Strawberry Festival, Marysville Food Bank, and the Salvation Army of Marysville/Tulalip.
- March: Darryl Jenkins, who inspires youth through coaching with Marysville Parks, Culture and Recreation and the Pilchuck Soccer Allliance
- April: Toni Kief for keeping the city clean and having filled up over 1,327 bags of trash since she began picking up in 2020.
2019 recipients
- January: Bob Rise for dedication to our community and extraordinary contributions to the Marysville Volunteer Patrol
- February: Jodi Hiatt for contributions and leadership as a longtime volunteer and ambassador for our community
- March: Noah Rui for creating connections with our friendship city in Yueqing, China providing outstanding guidance in customs and translation
2018 recipients
- April: Renee Bigwarfe and Betty Wright for their volunteer work with the youth in our community at Marysville Middle School
- June: Roger Gable for encouraging active citizenship among the youth in our community
- September: Kim Shumway for increasing accessibility of the theater as a volunteer for the Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts
- October: Emily Wicks for ensuring the children in our community have the school supplies they need for a successful education
- November: Kyle Burgess and Matt Benjamin for outstanding contributions to local emergency management planning and preparedness
2017 recipients
- February: Zoe Wlazlak for her dedication to the Marysville Emergency Cold Weather Shelter
- March: Dawn Hackett for coordinating rides for cancer patients to and from treatments
- April: Jim Strickland for long-time community advocacy for people with disabilities
- June: Nelly Osborn for her hard work and upbeat attitude as a volunteer for Marysville special events
2016 recipients
- April: Barbara Arocha for her work with the Marysville School District and Marysville Community Lunch
- May: Comcast for their work renovating and updating the Marysville Boys and Girls Club
- June: Veronica Love for her with Marysville Kiwanis International and the Marysville Strawberry Festival
- September: The Grove Church for their "I Heart Marysville" week
- November: Mike McDowell for his contribution to the Marysville Community Food Bank
2015 recipients
- January: Lynn Brittingham, director of Kloz 4 Kids and former Marysville School District teacher
- February: Alicia and Andy Delegans, longtime MPHS teachers and school district volunteers
- March: Marysville Noon Rotary, transforming Rotary Ranch into new public event space
- May: Cathy Pama, for her service in transforming the city's records archive and improving research capabilities
- June: Leroy Erxleben, for his dedication to helping the American Cancer Society transport patients to treatments
- July: Lenore Neff, for her lifetime of service to the Marysville community
- November: Aletta Joiner for her dedicated service to Eagle Wings DisAbility Ministries and community groups
- December - Michelle Wolford, for her work with the MPHS Life Skills and Everybody Matters groups
