Trees, greenery in Marysville: What you need to know as a property owner

Trees and greenery create an attractive image while providing many environmental, economical and health benefits to the community. City Public Works and Parks maintenance crews go to great lengths to keep them trimmed along public streets, sidewalks and rights-of-way.

But city workers can't do it alone. We need your help. If you're a homeowner or business owner, it's your responsibility to maintain trees and landscaping in and around your property.

City rules (Chapters 12.36 - 12.40) state that property owners are responsible to trim and maintain vegetation in front of their property to these standards:

• 14 feet above the paved section of the roadway, and
• 7 feet above sidewalks, while maintaining a 1-foot buffer behind the sidewalk areas.

This helps keep roadways and neighborhoods safer and neater. It makes it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to navigate and also gives street sweepers, buses, sanitation trucks and other service vehicles easy access to curbs and parking areas without impediments from low-hanging branches and shrubs.

Consistent, cost-effective tree trimming policies are in place to keep city rights-of-way safe, clean and user-friendly.
